The 17th International Congress of the Geological Society of Greece, will be held

at the University of Aegean, Mytilene, Lesvos island, Greece.

Organisation

The 17th International Congress of the Geological Society of Greece, the largest and most important scientific conference on Earth Sciences in Greece, is organized by the University of the Aegean / Department of Geography in collaboration with the Natural History Museum of the Lesvos Petrified Forest with the support of the Academic Departments and Sectors in Geosciences of the Greek Universities, Research and Scientific Institutions and Development Agencies operating in the Aegean.

Objectives

The primary goal of the Congress is the presentation of the most recent advances in Geological- and Environmental Sciences, mainly in the Aegean Region and its surroundings, aiming at highlighting their impacts on natural resources, natural hazards, and environmental problems. A major aim of the Congress is also to emphasize data acquisition, multi-disciplinary interpretation and modelling, theoretical developments, and applications to the Earth’s systems at various spatial scales employing new open-access data.

Transportation

Arrival by Plane:

Odysseas Elytis International Airport of Lesvos Island (airport code MJT) offers several daily connections with Athens and Thessaloniki.

Charter flights from the UK, the Netherlands, and other countries are also available.

Delegates are strongly encouraged to book their air travel as early as possible.

 

Arrival by Boat:

Ferries to Mytilene depart daily (except Saturday) from Piraeus Port (Athens).

There are also weekly ferry connections from and to:

  • Kavala (Wednesdays)
  • Thessaloniki (Saturdays)

The official language of the Congress is English.

Presentations

Presentations will be in either oral or poster form. Oral presentations should not exceed 15 minutes.
